In affiliation with Tis Pity, we are very excited to be offering the first Delsarte acting workshop in Calgary. Delsarte’s work focuses upon the Three Pillars of what it is to be an actor: to move, to interest, and to persuade. While there is not time to hit all of what it is to be an actor in only a two hour workshop, we will be deep diving into what Arnaud, Delsarte’s grand-daughter who brought his work to America and wrote his techniques down, credits as being the most important pillar, the pillar of gesture. Within two hours, we will move, interest, and persuade through physical gesture, stepping out of our comfort zone through a classical acting technique used from 1850-1940.
The workshop is offered courtesy of Fallon Smyl. Fallon is one of only 3 teachers of Delsarte’s techniques in North America and the only practitioner of his work in Canada. With an MFA thesis called “The Wall of Delsarte or Breaking Down Melodrama” her focus since then has been integration of Delsarte’s techniques into high school, university, and professional acting practice as both a deviser and director. Fallon has recently used Delsarte in Tartuffe (The Shakespeare Company), A Conspiracy Against Love (Sault Theatre Workshop), Jazzin’ with Werwolves (Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp), and The Beau Defeated (Meadowlark Shakespeare Players).
Sept. 19, 6-8 PM at Studio G. There will be a hard limit at 15 students.
